Situation Name - Middlesex Miracle

Difficulty Rating = 5 (ratings go from 1 easy to 6 nearly impossible)

Middlesex's sunday league hopes hang by a thread, they could win the Sunday league this year (1998) - but more than likely will come 2nd or 3rd, but to win this match is important. Middlesex require 31 runs from 24 balls (7.7 runs an over) but worse of all have just one wicket left.

How did this situation arise ?

Injuries and call ups to 3 of Middlesex's best players caused team selection problems - Weekes (in fine form especially at pinch hitting was injured), so was the bowler Richard Johnson - worst of all Tufnell was called up for England. In this situation Middlesex didn't bowl to badly but did have a nightmare last over when Richard Fay conceeded 17 runs!

Now with the batting came the problems - who was to open the batting with Pooley. Hewitt was chosen and did well but the tail is now seriously weaker. Fraser at 7, Bloomfield at 8, Fay at 9, Blanchett at 10 and Nigel Martin at 11. Of course we all realised as soon as the last recognised batsman was out the game was up. Well thats nearly the case but these last 2 are showing great character and matched with good leadership from you could actually pull of a really amazing win. I actually did it myself!! - we won with 1 ball left. That was probably due to getting 11 of one over - 4 leg byes, a miss hit for 4, good shot for 2 and a single, you'll probably need the same amount of luck to repeat this feat.
